Abstract

The Republic of Moldova occupies a leading place in mortality due to liver cirrhosis, caused by portal hypertension (PH) and its complications, but the most frequent and serious one is bleeding from esophageal varices. The major goal in the treatment of esophageal varices is to prevent and stop the recurrence of bleeding. The aim of the study is to analyze the treatment results by using the endoscopic ligation method in patients with liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension complicated with bleeding esophageal varices, which were treated in “The Saint Archangel Michael” hospital, during the 2009-2022 period. The patients were followed up clinically and endoscopically at different time intervals 6, 12, 24, 36 months. After the endoscopic ligation with elastic bands of esophageal varices, no major or systemic complications were recorded, which signifies a high success rate of the respective method.
