Abstract

Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remains a global public health problem. Antiviral treatment with high barrier resistance nucleos(t)idic analogues is the treatment of choice due to their high antiviral efficacy and safety profile. A retrospective study was conducted based on the analysis of the observation records of 50 treatment-naive and treatmentexperienced patients with chronic HBV infection who received antiviral treatment with AN at the Clinical Hospital of Infectious Diseases „Toma Ciorbă” during 2019-2021. Our study showed high VR rates and a favourable safety profile for naive patients and treatment-experienced patients. Mean age was 49.12±1.59 years, 72% male patients. 88% of patients were with chronic viral hepatitis B. Of the 50 patients studied, 27 patients were treatment naive and 23 patients were treatment experienced. Virusologic response (VR) at 24 months of treatment was achieved in 73.68%, with the highest proportion of patients in group II (88.89%). Treatment with AN showed high VR rates and a favorable safety profile for treatmentnaive and treatment-experienced patients. Antiviral treatment is long-term, which requires patient adherence and careful clinical and paraclinical monitoring, respecting the criteria for discontinuation without affecting the long-term prognosis, such as exacerbation of disease progression.
