Communication aspects of doctor-patient interrelationship

The medical act is based, including, on the doctor-patient relationship, which can have positive or negative influences on patient satisfaction, compliance, clinical and, finally, economic results. This article presents a synthesis of publications from the relevant scientific literature, addresses the importance of the doctor-patient relationship and communication aspects. The analyzed sources confirm that the interaction between doctor and patient is the central and critical element of medical services, and communication skills (empathy, verbal and nonverbal aspects, motivational interviewing, decision-making collaboration, etc.) can be learned and developed, which will bring benefits for clinical outcomes and will increase the quality of life and patient satisfaction with the medical system.
