Abstract

HIV infection causes the most severe immunosuppression, considered the major risk factor for TB. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the clinical characteristics of patients with TB-HIV co-infection according to the level of the immune deficiency in order to establish recommendations to improve the clinical case-management. A prospective, selective research that included 86 patients with TB distributed in the study group which included 38 cases with TB evolved on acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), established according to the level of CD4+≤200/μL and the control group with 48 TB cases with CD4+≥200/μL. Risk factors for TB on AIDS were: rural residence, low level of education and mental disorders. Treatment success was low and the death rate was high in both groups, showing the impact of other associated conditions. As recommendations was established that the complex screening for TB and HIV should be performed in all social-vulnerable groups, fortified by the primary prevention and individualized therapeutic approach.
