Clinical and practical features of the diagnosis and surgical treatment in thyroid nodules
Keywords:
thyroid nodules, surgical treatmentAbstract
Thyroid nodules are common lesions associated with the thyroid. They are detected in the general population up to 76% and possess a malignancy rate of 5-15%. Being an interdisciplinary clinical problem, despite international guidelines and studies, no consensus has yet been reached on the diagnostic-curative management of nodules. The aim of the study is to improve the diagnosis and surgical treatment of thyroid nodules. In the Clinic of Department of Surgery no. 5, a serial clinical study was carried out, between 2012 and 2022, which included 124 patients, aged between 19-71 years, who presented clinical and imaging thyroid nodules, with rapid growth in size, without positive dynamics after conservative treatment. Patients were additionally examined by serological tests, Doppler ultrasonography, sonoelastography, scintigraphy, and fine needle aspiration. Indications for surgical treatment were established. The volume of surgical interventions was decided in accordance with the result of the extemporaneous histological investigation. The obtained results were correlated with the histopathological diagnosis. Patients were monitored postoperatively for up to 24 months.
