Abstract

Behçet is a multisystemic vasculitis of unknown cause that mainly involves the eyes, mucous membranes and skin. Inflammatory manifestations may occur in other organs, such as the joints, gastrointestinal tract, and central nervous system. Usually, the clinical evolution is one with acute exacerbations against the background of a chronic inflammation. The natural history of uveitis in Behçet’s disease is one with attacks and remissions against a background of low-grade inflammation. An unfavorable visual prognosis can be avoided if irreversible complications are prevented.
